Honor the sacred.
Honor the Earth, our Mother.
Honor the Elders.
Honor all with whom we share the Earth:-
Four-leggeds, two-leggeds, winged ones,
Swimmers, crawlers, plant and rock people.
Walk in balance and beauty.
~ Native American Elder ~

Treat the earth well.
It was not given to you by your parents,
it was loaned to you by your children.
We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors,
we borrow it from our Children.
~ Ancient Indian Proverb ~

Humankind has not woven the web of life.
We are but one thread within it.
Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves.
All things are bound together.
All things connect.
~ Chief Seattle, 1854 ~

I do not think the measure of a civilization
is how tall its buildings of concrete are,
But rather how well its people have learned to relate
to their environment and fellow man.
~ Sun Bear of the Chippewa Tribe ~

When all the trees have been cut down,
when all the animals have been hunted,
when all the waters are polluted,
when all the air is unsafe to breathe,
only then will you discover you cannot eat money.
~ Cree Prophecy ~

You must teach your children that the ground beneath their feet is the ashes of your grandfathers.
So that they will respect the land, tell your children that the earth is rich with the lives of our kin.
Teach your children what we have taught our children, that the earth is our mother.
Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of the earth.
If men spit upon the ground, they spit upon themselves.
~ Unknown ~

We return thanks to our mother, the earth,
which sustains us.
We return thanks to the rivers and streams,
which supply us with water.
We return thanks to all herbs,
which furnish medicines for the cure of our diseases.
We return thanks to the moon and stars,
which have given to us their light when the sun was gone.
We return thanks to the sun,
that has looked upon the earth with a beneficent eye.
Lastly, we return thanks to the Great Spirit,
in Whom is embodied all goodness,
and Who directs all things for the good of Her children.
~ Iroquois ~

  1. Beautiful blog eddie, love ALL the quotes and the pics a stunning, looks like i’ve missed this and a few other blogs…lol but I will come back later to have a look.

  2. Re: the pic “pure peace” I like it and imagine it to be almost totally silent. Only the sound of the air passing over the wings of the seagull do I hear. Peace on the shoreline, that could have been me.

Deep peace of the running wave.

  5. As always your blogs are well thought out and those Quotes are so true.. We do indeed need to respect our Earth Mother, and realise we are all part of the Web that weaves its thread into her blanket of protection.. We need to hold that blanket ever closer … I only hope dear friend people’s thoughts will change the consciousness and allow the love our Earth Mother shares to once again be shared with each other.. as we have lost our way among the debris of greed and negativity..

  6. Those are such beautiful words, Eddie. If we humans could treat our Mother Earth and all her “beings” like the gifts they are …I believe we could could always “be here now”.
Lovely blog done with love as always….
